ICT Literacy Assessment

ETS has developed an Information and Communication Literacy test for high schoolers. Some colleges and states are already using it. Interesting if this becomes the standard for kids to get into college.

Hello, Dr. Zieger. Approximately 30-40 seniors at my high school volunteered to take the ICT Literacy Assessment pilot test for “technological literacy” administered by the Educational Testing Service. One group of students took the test on February 15, 2006 and another group took the test on February 16, 2006. The 70-minute exam was taken online. The students were given situations relating to technology where they had to problem-solve and make decisions. My supervisor found out about the ICT Literacy Assessment from an article she read in a local newspaper. She called the testing service immediately to register our high school so that our students would have the opportunity to participate. I think that testing the students’ technological literacy skills is an excellent idea, because technology affects every profession in some capacity. In order for our students to survive in today’s technological society, they need to be equipped with the proper skills. As an educator, I feel that it is my responsibility to help prepare my students for the future. It will be interesting to see where the results of this pilot test are going to lead to.
